What is Daktarin 2% Cream?
Daktarin 2% Cream is a medicine made with the active ingredient miconazole nitrate. This ingredient treats fungal infections associated with the skin and nails, including the hands, external ear, outer body trunk, groin (e.g., dhobie itch, nappy rash), feet (e.g., athlete's foot), and folds of skin.
Miconazole works by interacting with an enzyme that is necessary to produce ergosterol that is needed for fungal cell membranes. By inhibiting its production, fungal cells become leaky resulting in leakage of fungal cell contents. Both the fungus causing the infection and some bacteria are destroyed in this way. Daktarin 2% Cream also acts as a moisturiser, soothing red, cracked skin.
How to use Daktarin 2% Cream
Both adults and children can use Daktarin 2% Cream regardless of age. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should tell their doctor.
People who are hypersensitive to any of the constituents making up the cream, including miconazole nitrate, or to similar antifungal treatments, must not use Daktarin 2% Cream. While, all your medicines should be discussed with a pharmacist or doctor before using Daktarin 2% Cream, it is particularly important to mention blood-thinning drugs (oral anticoagulants), e.g., warfarin.
Daktarin 2% Cream side effects
Side-effects such as skin rash, redness or itchiness may occur and are usually mild. Some of the creams ingredients can irritate your skin, eyes and mucus membranes, or cause contact dermatitis. In hypersensitive people, Daktarin 2% Cream can cause an allergic reaction, with symptoms of swelling (face, mouth, lips, tongue or throat), problems with swallowing or breathing, itchy hives, and/or reactions at the site of cream application (irritation, burning, warmth, inflammation, or skin discolouration). I have been very constant in the treatment, but still have spots on my nose. Do not know what else to do.
