Get a Private GP Fit Note
The Online Clinic can provide private fit notes following an online consultation.
What is a Fit Note?
A Fit Note (sometimes known as a sick note) is a document from a medical professional regarding your fitness (or otherwise) for work. The document is intended to be presented to your employer to explain why you cannot work or if you can work, with a recommendation for amended duties. Fit Notes can also be presented to academic bodies where you are a student.
How long can a Fit Note last?
Employees can usually self-certify for 7 days of illness. Anything in excess of that may require a Fit Note from your GP. An alternative to a Fit Note from the NHS is a private GP Fit Note, such as the one available from The Online Clinic. The maximum duration of a Fit Note from our service is 14 days. We will not issue a further Fit Note to extend that period of absence or amended duties. A face-to-face consultation with your own GP would be required if you require longer than 14 days.
How does it work?
The first thing you need to do is complete a consultation with one of our GPs online. The consultation takes the form of an instant chat type consultation. You may be requested to upload documents to support your case.
How much does the service cost?
The initial consultation to assess your fitness to work costs £14.95. The doctor may assess that you are fit to work and do not require amended duties. If the doctor declines to authorise a Fit Note, there will be no further charge. Should the doctor offer a Fit Note, then an additional fee of £19.95 will be levied to produce the document and the doctor adding their signature. You do not need to proceed with the Fit Note if you change your mind after the consultation; in which case you do NOT need to pay the additional £19.95. The initial consultation is therefore without obligation.
How do I receive the Fit Note?
Once you pay the £19.95 documentation fee, the doctor will prepare the Fit Note and it will appear on your patient dashboard as a PDF. A copy will also be sent to you in the post. Making the document available to you electronically immediately means that you do not have to wait for the paper version to arrive.
How long does it take?
The Online Clinic operates 7 days a week and most consultations are started within 30 minutes (unless it is the middle of the night). From the point of submitting your consultation request to the production of the document should take no longer than 2 hours. We would expect to have it to you sooner than that, but we need to account for busy periods at the clinic.
