What is Soolantra?
Soolantra is formulated with the active ingredient, ivermectin that is a member of the avermectin group of medicines. These medicines have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the redness, swelling and tenderness of spots and pimples associated with rosacea.
How to use Soolantra
Soolantra is a topically-applied cream for the skin surface. Cosmetic skin products must only be used after Soolantra cream has been used and dried on the skin.
Once daily, place a pea-sized blob of cream on each area of the face, those being your forehead, left cheek, right cheek, nose and chin. Thinly distribute the cream to cover each area and thus all of your face, making sure that you avoid eyes and eyelids, nose, and lips and mouth. When this is done, wash your hands thoroughly.
Daily treatments should continue for as long as your doctor has told you, which will reflect your skin’s condition. To prevent spots and pimples returning, it is important to use the medicine for the entire course. Improvements may be seen after applying the cream for one month but if there is no change or worsening after three months, then stop using Soolantra and tell your doctor. Seek advice from your doctor if you have used too much cream, and do not use twice the quantity if you forget your daily dose.
Who can use Soolantra?
Soolantra is for use by adults (over 18 years) only. People with impaired liver function should notify their doctor before using this medicine. Additionally, mention all other medicines that you currently or potentially might use, or have used recently as they could affect Soolantra treatment.
Soolantra should not be used by individuals who are allergic (hypersensitive) to ivermectin or any other of the creams constituents. Do not use Soolantra during pregnancy or breast feeding. You could stop breast feeding and start Soolantra, but it is recommended to discuss the benefits of both Soolantra and breast-feeding with your doctor before making this decision.
