What is Gyno-Pevaryl cream?
Gyno-Pevaryl cream is an anti-infective that targets fungi and yeast. It is used in cases of infections of the female and male genital areas, which include the vagina and penis and the surrounding area of these organs.
The active chemical in Gyno-Pevaryl cream is econazole nitrate. Econazole works by damaging the cell membranes of fungal and yeast cells. This makes the cell membranes more permeable. Cell membranes within the liquid (the cytoplasm) of the cell are damaged, which kills the cells.
How to use Gyno-Pevaryl cream
Gyno-Pevaryl cream is white and contains 1% of the active medicine, econazole nitrate.
Anyone using the cream should wash their hands before applying the cream to the skin, particularly pregnant women. The cream can be used both inside and outside of the vagina, and on the penis and under the penis's foreskin.
Women should put about 5 g - that is an applicator full - of Gyno-Pevaryl cream inside their vagina and sparingly cover their vagina and the vagina's surrounding skin with a thin, even coat of cream. Pregnant women should not use the applicator when using the cream. Men should sparingly cover their penis and its surrounding skin as well as under their foreskin (if present) with a thin, even coat of Gyno-Pevaryl cream.
Gyno-Pevaryl cream is applied once a day (women should use it before bed; men can use it any time). Application should continue for 14 days, which is the full treatment course. The full 14-days treatment course should be completed despite the disappearance of any symptoms (e.g., itching, discharge, soreness). If anyone swallows a lot of Gyno-Pevaryl cream they should get advice from a doctor or go to a hospital emergency department immediately.
Who can use Gyno-Pevaryl cream?
Gyno-Pevaryl cream is for use by adult and teenagers over 16 years of age. Seek advice from a doctor before using this medicine if pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a baby. Please note that The Online Clinic has a minimum treatment age of 18 in order to comply with the terms of our licence.
Gyno-Pevaryl cream should not be used by anyone allergic to the active ingredient econazole nitrate or any one of the other ingredients of the cream, or another medicine used to treat fungal or yeast (thrush) infections. Gyno-Pevaryl cream contains benzoic acid (E210) that may cause local irritation, and butylated hydroxyanisole (E320) that can cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis or eye and mucous membrane irritation.
Before using Gyno-Pevaryl cream, the doctor should be told any other internal or external treatment being used for the female and male genitalia. You should also discuss using another means of contraception if currently using a 'barrier' method (the cream can cause damage to the rubber of, for example, condoms and diaphragms) or using a spermicidal contraceptive (vaginal treatments can inactivate spermicidals), thus preventing these methods working effectively.
The doctor will want to know all recent, current, and future prescription, non-prescription, or herbal medicines you are taking or about to take. In particular, this includes anticoagulants (blood thinners, e.g., warfarin or acenocoumarol) as the cream may prevent them from working properly.
